About the Instructors

Workshop: Basic Studio Lighting

Instructor: David Lawrence Lim

Taking good photographs begins with making a good coffee. It helps if one is prepared to help carry equipment, paint the walls and sweep the floor too. So discovered Lawrence Lim, who decided to step out of his comfort zone and pursue a career in video and photography over a decade ago. Indeed, learning to work around the camera went a long way in learning to work behind it. Having worked on film, video and photography sets, Lawrence has garnered a wealth of experience in all three genres, with especial fondness for lighting. Lighting, whether natural or artificial, is key to an inspiring image. Lawrence has captured a multitude of life's most memorable moments. His photographs have been published in The Straits Times, Singapore Women's Weekly, and escape!, while his videos can be seen on TV. The way he sees it, an image – still or moving, fabricated or documented – is all about reflecting personal vision and aspiration.

Formally trained in Fine Arts through the Art Elective Programme, majoring in Theatre Studies at the National University of Singapore, Triston has always been attracted to the creative realm. Distilling years of experience in traditional and performing arts, Triston has since chosen photography as his vehicle to push the boundaries of art.

The challenge of photography is not in recording an image as it is. A fineart photographer seeks to explore the aesthetics of a scene and tastefully translate it into a piece of art. Triston constantly works to see beyond the obvious, to include only the necessary. His constant pursuit of Fine Art Travel Photography has seen Triston being accredited as a Fellow of the Master Photographer Association of UK

Being acknowledged as one of Asian Geographic’s Best Photographer of the Decade, educating budding photographers is another of Triston’s personal missions. Through
photography seminars and photoclinics, Triston aims to share the knowledge he has accumulated over the years.
