About Montage
On 5th June 1999, the Photographic Society of NUS organized its inaugural public seminar and exhibition at a NUS Lecture Theatre. With a successful turnout of over 200 participants, the Photographic Society of NUS was greatly encouraged to continue in the tradition of Montage. When the subsequent Montage 2000 was held at the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, it enjoyed a much greater success with a turnout of more than 500.
Since then, the standard and prestige of the event has grown immensely, eventually making Montage an event every photographer looks forward to. This year, we will be bringing in concepts such as Travel Photography and Fashion Photography. On top of that, one of our speakers would be touching on a general topic for the first time - Finding a Voice in Photography. In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of NUSPS, we will be holding it at Suntec SIngapore. A photographic exhibition will be held in conjunction with our photographic seminar, which will feature outstanding works from the students and the public.
The Aim of Montage
Montage provides an opportunity for students from the secondary schools, junior colleges, tertiary institutions, various fine arts colleges as well as members of the public to come together to further develop and nurture their interest in photography. The event also serves as a platform for young photographers to present their works to be critiqued and gain recognition through the exhibition. Many young photographers endowed with creative ideas and exquisite skills lack avenues for them to showcase their talent, resulting in limited exposure and contribution to the photographic scene in Singapore.
Montage serves as a platform to raise the profiles of these young photographers and to catalyse their growing interest in photography. Furthermore, Montage provides an excellent opportunity for the photographers in Singapore to put their photographic skills to the test through participation in our photographic competition. It also allows them to have greater insights into the field of professional photography through our seminar. The aim of Montage 2009 is to provide a platform for young photographers to learn more and gain valuable insights into the field of photography.
Finally, we hope to raise the profile of The Photographic Society of NUS among the local photographic circle. By organising this annual nationwide event, we are not just preserving a tradition; we are also promoting it as an annual event that everyone is looking forward to.
About The Photographic Society of NUS (NUSPS)
Founded in November 1969, the Photographic Society of NUS is one of the earliest interest groups formed in the National University of Singapore. Today, the Society boasts of more than 750 current members after 40 years of achievements and success. The Society is actively involved in bringing photographic techniques and knowledge to its members through courses and field trips.
Our goals are:
- Making photography an interesting hobby to pick up
- Helping members gain knowledge on different photographic genres
- Giving members an insight to photography as an art form
- Creating a community of photographers with a wide array of resources and knowledge to share with the other members
